Life changing Yoga Retreat with Louise Cameron

Not so many years ago if you asked me to head off on a weeks long Yoga retreat with a group of people I didn’t know, have limited access to internet, take time off work and actually switch off – I pretty much would have laughed out loud.
I have for as long as I can remember only functioned in levels of high stress – to be honest I never really know what to do if there is not high stress. I remember hours after having Emmé (my first child) sitting propped up in the hospital bed with my blackberry red hot with me working.

Then in 2012 after having my second child I took on a board role within the referendum campaign – then to laterally take on the Operations Director role within the referendum campaign all while still having to manage a growing very much changing Yoga and Pilates studio, a new baby and a 2 year old.
This felt pretty normal to me – i’ve always just performed in high stress but what I didn’t count on what the effect it was having on my physical and mental wellbeing.

After the referendum I felt completely deflated and exhausted. It was almost as though my body had been pushing to just get to the end goal and when that date came my body switched off. I knew I needed to take some time off, but even my time off meant completely reorganising the house, and then when I was done there I decided to take on more hobbies. I was unable to switch off… I didn’t know how to…

I very much by accident came across a Yoga weekend retreat in Edinburgh – it was only 2 days… how stressed could 2 days make me without access to the internet I thought… It also gave me the opportunity to treat a really good friend who had helped me over the years who very much loved Yoga. At this course we all met some beautiful souls, one of them was Louise Cameron. You know there are times in your life you are just meant to meet people – this was one of them for me.

Louise herself has been though her own journey, she had a relaxing but also energising energy about her. I immediately loved her. Not long after louise joined us in The Yoga and Pilates Place teaching Yoga, working with her Physio clients and delivering Pilates sessions. Louise headed back to Ibiza to work on the Yoga retreats for a second year but this year she had organised her own Yoga retreat – I was immediately interested – but also very worried if I could cope with this length of time away not only from the business but also the family.

I spoke to my husband (Euan) who pretty much shoved me towards going and doing it. I booked very last minute and was very fortunate to get a cancellation space.

I arrived in Ibiza to be picked up and taken to what can only be described as a dream house villa – it really was truly out of this world stunning. Relaxing pool music was on, sun loungers all round the pool, hammocks up between the palm trees, blue sky and stunning accommodation. Within 30 seconds of walking in I could feel myself literally relax.

Arriving in my room there was a welcome letter, journal and timetable. All very relaxed with no compulsory activities. Yoga in the morning to the sunrise coming up on the beach, Yoga Nidra under the stars, goal setting, therapy workshops to bring out your inner child and creative side, hiking in the stunning hills, amazing amazing amazing food all cooked and prepared by the private chef. The people I met will be friends for life. Screen Shot 2016-04-21 at 00.14.13

When I say the retreat was life changing for me, I honestly mean it. Taking this time not only to relax but to spend time on me, working on truly what makes me happy meant that I came home and implemented working towards those goals. I’m now back studying full-time and working towards a long term goal I thought I never had time for because my plate was filled with things that didn’t make me happy. I can’t recommend Louise’s Yoga retreat highly enough. If you get the chance to book on – grab it with both hands… you wont regret it….
